It was the first royalty-free, user-friendly way for people to browse information and content on the information network that was in its infancy and that would eventually become the internet that has become an integral part of our daily lives today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the 29 years since its inception, the web has, of course, expanded. The capabilities have become more useful and the content has become more \u2013 well \u2013 <i>interesting<\/i>! In honor of the anniversary, we thought we\u2019d take a trippy trip down memory lane and circle back to recent history by highlighting \u201c50 of the Greatest Things Ever Published on the Web.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t say we didn\u2019t warn you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-greatest-memes\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><b>Greatest Memes<\/b><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-grumpy-cat\"><b>Grumpy Cat<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/8CFKqeK9vks3C\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>We dare say there has probably been no furry internet celebrity more beloved than Grumpy Cat. The frowning feline, whose real name was Tardar Sauce, burst into the popular consciousness in 2012 when her owner posted pictures of her on Reddit. Tardar Sauce\u2019s delightfully dour expression (yes, it was a real, permanent anomaly) made her a star \u2013 so much so that she appeared on merchandise and in endorsements and comic books. Sadly, Grumpy Cat is no longer with us, but we\u2019re sure she continues to brighten the realm beyond the Rainbow Bridge with her eternally grouchy demeanor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-condescending-sarcastic-willy-wonka\"><b>Condescending\/Sarcastic Willy Wonka<\/b><\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/Tt9jctxaVjRny\/giphy.gif\" alt=\"\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Gene Wilder played the eccentric and, at times, maniacal candy man Willy Wonka in the 1971 movie \u201cWilly Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.\u201d In 2011, the first snarky memes featuring the character began to appear on the internet: a still image of Wonka\u2019s benign facial expression with slogans conveying a condescending, sarcastic&nbsp; attitude. That was until a group of computer students at the University of Cambridge in England rigged up a camera to monitor the levels of java in their lab\u2019s coffee pot via still images so they wouldn\u2019t run low on brain fuel.
